Electromagnetic flow measurement has been in use around the world for 50 years and more, as witnessed by the popularity of these meters that continues unabated in virtually all sectors of industry. Electromagnetic Flowmeters can be used to measure all electrically conductive liquids (> 5 µS/cm) with or without solids, e.g. water, wastewater, sludge, slurries, pastes, acids, alkalis, juices, fruit pulp, etc. It is based on Faraday’s law of Electromagnetic Induction. The meter features flanged construction and is available with choice of liner and electrode material. All meters consist of a sensor and a converter that may be mounted either integral to the sensor or remotely with a field mount kit. Flowmeters are calibrated at our own Water Flow Calibration Facility. It uses the primary method of measuring the water flow by gravimetric principle. The facility is designed for calibration of flowmeters under controlled and stable flow conditions.

Overview

Electromagnetic Flowmeters are based on Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction.

In an Electromagnetic Flowmeter, the magnetic field is generated by a set of coils. As the conductive liquid passes through the electromagnetic field, an electric voltage is induced in the liquid, which is directly proportional to its velocity. This induced voltage is perpendicular to both the liquid flow direction and the electromagnetic field direction. The voltage sensed by the electrodes is further processed by the transmitter to give standardised output signal or displayed in appropriate engineering unit. The insertion type flow meter, manufactured by Georg Fischer, is an addition and upgradation to our inline electromagnetic flow measurement. This flow analysis device, technically called as Magmeter, is a patented sensor design available in corrosion – resistant materials to provide long term reliability with minimal maintenance costs.

Based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, these flowmeters are suitable for virtually all types of conductive liquids (> 5 µS/cm) with or without solids, e.g. water, wastewater, sludge, slurries, pastes, acids, alkalis, juices, fruit pulp, 

Material options include PP with stainless steel, PVDF with Hastelloy-C, or PVDF with Titanium. Utilizing the comprehensive line of Signet installation fittings, sensor alignment and insertion depth is automatic. 

These versatile, simple-to-install sensors deliver accurate flow measurement over a wide dynamic range in pipe sizes ranging from DN15 to DN900 (½ to 36 in.), satisfying the requirements of many diverse applications. The Operating range varies from 0.05 to 10 m/s (0.15 to 33 ft/s).

Magmeter offer many output options of frequency/digital (S3L) or 4 to 20 mA which are available on both the blind and display versions. The 4 to 20 mA output can be used for a direct input to PLCs, chart recorders, etc. Both the 4 to 20 mA output and digital (S3L) sensor interface is available for long distance signal transmission.

An additional benefit is the empty pipe detection which features a zero-flow output when the sensors are not completely wetted.

The frequency output is bi-directional while the 4 to 20 mA output can be set for uni- or bi-directional flow using the display or the 3-0252 Configuration Tool which connects to PCs for programming capabilities.
